Samantha Raven's life as an Acoustic Folk-Rock Artist began in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2000, where alone in an adobe cottage with a view of the Sangre De Christo Mountains, she spent hours with her guitar in the haunting and magical high desert landscape. The Muse found her, and within one year Samantha evolved from the girl who sang in school choirs into an emerging artist, having co-produced her first CD entitled "Raw" with eleven original songs.
Samantha moved to The San Francisco Bay Area in February 2001 and decided at age 25 to really do music. Since then her life has been a vibrant process of deepening her commitment to and understanding of both music and her role in delivering her unique gifts to the world. She co-produced her second independent album, entitled "Becoming My Own Beloved", released in August of 2004.
Spunky and angelic, sassy and sweet, Samantha captivates audiences with her powerful voice, her calm grace and her words of wisdom. Her music incorporates the power and passion of Ani Difranco, the adorable wit of Dar Williams, and the dreamy quality of Norah Jones. Her striking vocal style is unique and refreshing and her voice has a pure bell-like clarity and grace. She swoops from brassy acapella musical theater pieces to intimate and revealing acoustic folk-rock originals, to haunting Native American flute journeys. As a practicing Buddhist her music is reflective of the human quest for Truth. She asks, "Who am I?" "Who are we?" "Why are we here, really?" "Why are we suffering?" "Why do we think we aren't good enough?" "How can we expand our awareness and become our own Divinity?"
Sometimes serious, sometimes playful, she unveils her thoughts and feelings with a rare combination of vulnerability and strength. Her undulating melodies and well-crafted lyrics will take you on a tour of yourself, from the tender child to the omnipotent Divinity within. She sings in English, Spanish and French, and whether of not you understand the language, you really feel what she is saying. Samantha is dedicated to three things: choosing happiness, understanding experientially what it means to be one with everything, and having a healing impact on the world with her music. Her songs reflect her personal struggles and breakthroughs in her transformation from a wild and rootless girl to a wise and peaceful woman who knows the depth of her own power.
"Give it All Away" is an upbeat, motivating song. It speaks of the pain we have when we realize we have given our power and authenticity away in a codependent relationship. It encourages us to then give away the same mentality that allowed us to get stuck in the first place. It speaks of triumph over adversity, and the courage to stand up and define what we really want and need.
"Serenada" is a haunting Spanish love song of pursuit, betrayal, longing and acceptance.
"Becoming My Own Beloved" is a soulful prayer to the Universe that we all may seek and discover the beautiful sanctuary of our own inner divinity, the dwelling of deep peace and ease which is our true nature.
